Abstract

Changes in the way people work, communicate, and interact in the Industrial Era 4.0 and Society 5.0 present significant challenges for the education sector. Educational institutions must prepare adaptive, creative, and innovative human resources capable of thriving amid rapid technological advancements. This study aims to analyze the readiness, challenges, and needs of elementary school teachers in Bangka Regency in implementing coding and artificial intelligence (AI) learning in schools. Using a qualitative approach with an exploratory case study design, participants consisted of elementary school teachers from various schools in Sungailiat and Pemali. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, involving twenty teachers who took part in in-depth interviews and thirty-one teachers who participated in focus group discussions (FGDs). The results indicated that approximately 50%–70% of teachers felt fairly ready to integrate coding and AI into their teaching, while the remainder felt unprepared. The main challenges identified were technical limitations related to devices and infrastructure, pedagogical difficulties in teaching elementary students due to a lack of clear guidelines and training, and insufficient social support from parents. Teachers highlighted the need for continuous practical training, improved school facilities, and stronger institutional support.
