Abstract

The use of automation technology in technical education is becoming increasingly important, especially in the context of Vocational High Schools (SMK) that prepare students for industry. This research developed a fruit sorting tool based on PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) which was specifically designed as a learning medium at SMKN 1 Parit Tiga Jebus. This tool aims to teach students about the principles of industrial automation with a focus on the introduction and application of PLC and HMI technology in the process of sorting fruit based on color and weight. This fruit sorting tool is equipped with color sensors and weight sensors to identify and separate fruit according to predetermined categories using a conveyor as a carrying tool. The PLC is used to control and regulate the sorting process automatically, while the HMI functions as an interactive interface that allows students to monitor and control the process in real-time. The system is designed to provide in-depth practical experience in PLC programming and HMI use, as well as in the application of automation technology in industry. The research results show that the application of this fruit sorting tool significantly increases students' understanding and practical skills in the field of industrial automation. Students not only gain technical knowledge regarding PLC configuration and programming as well as HMI use, but also gain hands-on experience in handling complex automation systems. Thus, this tool is an effective learning medium to prepare students of SMKN 1 Parit Tiga Jebus to face industrial challenges in the future.
